feeling better
Boy oh boy don't I have energy? I'm typing on my PC while the ipad updates and the keyboard is different. Slows me down!
So this morning I very slowly consumed another broth with egg and the kefir with apple juice mixed with water like last night. My tummy started complaining so I slowed down a lot. Let it have the nutritients nice and slow, and very dilute.
I realized today why I know so much about refeeding. Back in the bad old days of vintage literature, back when basic medical care was bloodletting, recovering from starvation was a common issue. People frequently went off their feed for long times due to illness or lack of food, so it was pretty common to have to know how to feed after famine. You just can't go shoving food into the belly!
In my research I keep noticing people using fruit to break their fast. Purely foolish! No fiber, silly, none. Just having to deal with the mild protiens, fats and sugars in your clear tea, juice, or broth, is enough to start the process for the first day or two. So start with clear liquids and keep them dilute, and avoid acidic things like fruit juices or water them down drastically. Hence the kefir and water with just 25% juice in them. Then take a nice long time finishing, like sipping wine. So your tummy can move the little bits of liquid out fairly quick. Most digestion is done in the small intestine, not the stomach, and much of it is done by micro-organisms which have mostly died of starvation. So you have to wake up your bacterial colonies gradually to give them time to feed and breed up to speed. Let me tell you, the last thing your empty tummy full of stomach acid needs is more acid, so don't consume the apple juice, oranges, and so forth, use a veggie or bone broth (stock is when it's concentrated) or coconut milk (which I'm having nightly) to get things going. Then start adding foods with the least possible bulk, like how I whip an egg into the broth. Since I'm already paleo I also won't be adding any grains, but if you're a grain eater, light dry breads like melba toast are fantastic ways to break a fast on day two or three. By day 3 most will be heading for fiber. I took some kale off my kale plant above the aquarium and chewed the leaves directly. they really eased my stomach so that's good. Kale is nice and alkaline, like green tea! Alkaline will help my PH stay well.
I've now lost 14 pounds in one week, which is exciting as hell, so I'm going to keep my body in ketosis by switching from water to clear liquid fasting and continue under feeding myself. I'm almost at the point where I could lose the last few pounds just exercising over summer, so that's nice. I kind of gave up on the idea of ever being thin again, I suppose, although fit certainly was a goal. Fit isn't the same thing as thin. Thin is nice but not necessary. Now it looks possible and I'm chasing it! Last time I got there I counted calories religiously for a year. Gained every damn pound of it back too, and struggled to lose it again. First 20 pounds came off with the paleo diet. Actually, more than that but I put half back on cheating with potato chips. They seem nauseating now, LOL That's how fasting resets your food relationships. Suddenly you wonder, if it's possible to go so long with nothing, why in the hell you felt it so necessary to eat that crap? Why was it so attractive? Well it was easy and I thought I needed to eat!
I want so much to share this with Tom but he's so scared all the time, he would freak out at the idea. However, if I"m going to do a fast quarterly, and I think I should, that'll teach him they're easy and healthy and maybe after the next one I can teach him. I didn't enter this one in the right spirit.
I'm astonished at how much calmer I am. I feel like I can actually interface with other humans today! I'm not feeling so sensitive and fragile emotionally. The detox? The reset? The rest from the fast? Dan being nicer? All of the above? Well I didn't follow scientific methods and I don't know.
We still don't have ready cash. I should check that assumption and see if I can pay another late bill. They're all late except the ones I paid last week. yeah, there's my stress level, that's where it went! Worry about the bills. sheesh.
So I'm going to quit blogging because instead of using this today to help me express what nobody else wants to hear, I'm "keeping up the diary." ergo, don't feel a need. buh buy
