Future Smile

I can honestly say I believe we can have a bright future.  It's a feeling that's been growing steadily as this century proceeds.  I haven't always felt that way.  There were times I thought the doomsday clock was conservative.  Now, though, I see so much positive growing and proceeding against steep odds.  I see Facebook deciding to push for my personal dream, internet to the 3rd world.  I firmly believe these people would solve all their own problems in a single generation if they had the ready access to knowlege that I love so much.  The difference it's made over here is clear enough to me, for I lived a quarter century and more without it.  I remember the days of party line POTS telephone service.  Pretty much just a fence wire system and it was weird because you could hear the line interference enough to really get a sense of the distance between you.  If they were across town, it was fairly clear.  In the next exchange?  A bit tinny, some static, you speak up a bit.  Across the ocean?  Oh my, that was very foggy.  You shouted across the distance and even repeated yourself a bit.  it cost a fortune so  it was counted as an excellent way to honor a gift obligation.  My parents retained this custom all the days of their lives, as did their children, resulting finally in never calling each other by the time it was free.  Maybe we'd have put up with each other had we been raised more generously.  Who's to say?  That family, and that version of me, are already out there somewhere exploring those possibilities.  This version would be "me" no matter how many souls got switched out and that isn't how it went then.
Whew, bring myself down in five shakes of a lamb's tail!  Nevermind, back to topic (damn adhd anyway).
So they're bringing the 3rd world internet.  Cool!  it's going to be rough with all the extra trolls, scammers, thieves and morons that will include.  There's no worse moron than an ignorant one who feels like he's sipped at the fount of knowlege and is now a clever boy.  Patience, Netizens, we're all earthlings and someday maybe dolphins and apes will join the global discussion too!
Then there's the changes in society.  Homosexuality is okay now.  There's pockets of resistance but even then they know it's unacceptable to the general society.  You must leave them alone at least, if you cannot accept them as ordinary humans.
So much more I should just make some lists: privacy, you think you're more compromised than you ever  were, but believe me, you've got more privacy and rights than any social human in history.  Sex abuse of kids, and general abuse of kids.  Heck, it's getting to where even spanking is pretty much disapproved of.  It's not disallowed, yet, because if you're a rotten parent it's better than nothing.  But far more parents are modelling a more attentive and prioritized form of parenting where the kid is too busy and involved to act out.  It's lovely.  Environment: it's on the minds of most, even the dull minded.  We've made great strides against the greenhouse gasses.  We've made recyling a utility in even Saskatoon, SK.  We've generally got a pretty tidy attitude up here in Canada to our waste and pollution these days.  The whole ozone thing got healed so much nobody knows about it anymore.  Wee've brought back a ton of endangered species and now they are able to use drones to catch the poachers endangering a lot of those still at threat.
So I can go on like this for days, but it would take that long to recall it all!
I know there's crap in the world.  Always has been, you know, and in some places it's blowing all to hell.  Again, always has been.  Just spin the globe, toss a dart, and the next one starts.  Thing is, we are making progress and we can continue to make progress.  These days I think we're balanced more to the optimistic than ever before.
