catch up, and 3 quick recipes
See, this is how it happens. I get a bit busy, lose the habit of writing, and suddenly it's a quick blip to list the events of the week as though they are important. yet that's not what this blog is for. it's for musing and thinking and if I don't do it regularly it won't be there when I need it.
One thing I hate about losing weight, my rings getting too loose. They drop around and the jewel sits under my finger while I type, annoying me. Not quite as much as how this keyboard can't keep up with me and doubles too many characters.
So the first busy thing was I bought an Xbox on sunday. So that blew monday and tuesday away, really. Except that also on Tuesday the washing machine flooded the basement. So there's more work. I'm trying to play catch-up on regular chores and cooking while painting boxes and playing xbox but then I'm drying out the basement, moving stuff out of the wet zone, cleaning up and so forth. and the washer isn't fixed, full of a half-done load of clothes. Dan's going to get on that tonight.
We like the xbox. I love the voice and gesture command. I haven't used it for games yet but it plays our 3d movies in 3d and it plays my music collection (badly) off usb drive. Why can't they use the music app for external drives? I mean, the things are there, it can read them, so open the blasted music app and give me playlist functionality and all the other goodies!
I've been doing a small 6 box series I'm calling 'crystal series" and they all have swarovski crystals on them and transparent colour on transparent plastic. They're quite sweet! I hung all the boxes on a light tree. It's a silver "cherry tree" of LED blossoms that softly move through the rainbow and I hung it upside down from the ceiling to display my boxes on it.

Tom has been getting miserable again and I had to scold him really hard, but he appears to forgive me. I can't sit there and watch a person self destruct and still care about them without scolding them at least! He's using his lack of funds as an excuse to eat badly, but I reminded him that real food is definitely cheaper, even if you can't use the choice cuts and rare fruits! So maybe you're using cabbage instead of kale, for instance. It's good for you, eat it!
Here's a recipe really quick:
chop a head of red cabbage, about like coleslaw. Add to the pot with equal amount cubed potatoes, one apple, one sweet onion, and a quarter cup of vinegar. Cook, preferably pressure cooker but use what you've got, till potatoes are tender. Mash together. Goes well with pork chops or similar flavour meat. ( I don't eat pig)
Similar dish: green cabbage, potatoes, onion, sliced summer sausage Mash with gravy
and the third: rutabaga, potatoes, fried ground meat. Mash with gravy. Cheese if you eat the stuff.
I got these recipes from Mom, I think they're dutch. Two pot meals because the meat is always cooked separately then added.
